Prof. Dr. Javier Amezcua obtained his PhD study in 2012 at University of Maryland in USA and then worked as postdoc and later senior researcher at University of Reading in UK. Since 2022 he has been associate professor at Monterrey Institute of Technology in Mexico. His interests cover data assimilation, bayesian problems and etc. Since 2020, he is the member of organising committee of International Symposium of Data Assimilation (ISDA).
报告摘要:
Around the world, seismic and acoustic arrays are constantly recording “background noise”. This “noise”, however, can contain useful information. Infrasound generated in the Earth’s surface can propagate vertically through the atmosphere, be reflected at some altitude, and travel back to the ground where it is detected. These waves are affected by the atmospheric conditions they encounter. Hence, the infrasound-related observations recorded in the stations contain integrated information of the atmospheric variables. In this talk we show how the Modulated Ensemble Transform Kalman filter can make use of these observations to infer stratospheric values. Since this is a poorly-observed region, any information proves quite valuable.
